Tour course

Day
Arrival

Individual arrival in Mallnitz and check-in at the hotel.

Mallnitz – Mühldorf/Sachsenburg, about 41 km

Cycle downhill to Obervellach and along the Mölltalradweg (Möll Valley cycle path)  always downstream to your destination for today - Möllbrücke or Sachsenburg.

Mühldorf/Sachsenburg – Villach, about 55 km

Today you cycle along the Drau River cycle trail to Villach. During a stopover in Spittal, visit the Porcia Castle, considered the most beautiful Renaissance building in Austria. The tour continues to Villach, the town with southern flair.

Villach – Tarvisio, about 37-40 km

Following the Gail River you leave Villach behind you and soon you say goodbye to Austria and welcome to Italy. In the border triangle Italy-Austria-Slovenia stretches the Kanaltal Valley, whose centre is the Italian border town of Tarvisio. Austrians, Slovenians and Italians have lived here together for centuries, as all three major European language families - Germanic, Romanic and Slavic - meet here directly.

Tarvisio – Moggio Udinese/Carnia about 50-60 km

Cycling through the "Canale del Ferro" (Kanaltal Valley) you will admire the beauties of the Friulian Alpine region with its unspoilt nature and extensive forests. In Venzone, with its eventful history, you can take a stroll through the old town.

Moggio Udinese/Carnia – Udine about 50-60 km

Wine determines today's stage. Hills full of vine grapes line your way and invite you to taste one or the other sip. Udine, which is marked by Venetian influences, radiates calm and serenity; over a coffee in the "piazza" or during a stroll through the city centre you can admire important buildings of the late Gothic and Renaissance periods.

Udine – Grado, about 55-60 km

Accompanied by the breeze of the Scirocco (Mediterranean wind), you will glide past reed beds and water channels and reach Grado, a historic fishing town and one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Adriatic, via the former Roman town of Aquileia.

Grado – Trieste, about 55-60 km

Following a breathtakingly beautiful coastal area you cycle towards your destination, the former Habsburg city of Trieste. Castle Miramare invites you to visit before you enter the old port and trading town. Trieste offers a worthy conclusion to this cycling tour.
