The bike path around Neusiedler See, located about an hour's drive southeast of Vienna , has been awarded the top grade. Flat and away from the traffic you cycle to places of interest (castles, sanctuaries), through Austria's first nature reserve "Lange Lacke" and homely wine-growing villages. The region has retained its authenticity.

Arrival

Indvidual arrival in Rust, a small medieval town with approx. 1000 inhabitants and plenty of storcks during the summer time.  Handover of the travel documents and rented bikes (if booked).

Rust - Sopron - Rust, approx. 37 km

You start the tour riding through vineyards to Mörbisch and further on to the Hungarian border and towards Balf and Sopron with its beautiful revitalized historic center. Cycle back to the hotel on the same way.

Rust - Oggau - Rust, approx. 34 km

Again you cycle through vineyards, with a fantastic view over the lake, to the historic village Oggau, which is known from wine connoisseurs in whole Europe. The best Austrian red wines grow here. For going back to the hotel take the same way.

Rust - Illmitz - Lange Lacke - Rust, approx. 43 km

This day starts with a trip to Mörbisch, where you take the ferry to Illmitz. Here you continue the riding through the national park "Hölle" and "Lange Lacke", which is a salted lake. The whole area is a bird sanctuary. To get to the hotel again take the ferry from Illmitz to Mörbisch and cycle to Rust.

Rust - Neusiedl am See - Rust, approx. 55 km

This stage leads on the cycle path to Donnerskirchen, Purbach and Neusiedl am See with its castle and a museum of local history. Take the train back to Donnerskirchen and from there you cycle towards the hotel.

Rust - Eisenstadt - Rust, approx. 43 km

First you cycle to Schützen, where you take the train (leaves Schützen every hour) to Eisenstadt, the capital of Burgenland. The magnificent castle Eszterhazy is worth a visit. For returning to the hotel again take the train to Schützen and cycle to Rust.

Rust - Roman ston pit St Magareten - Rust, approx. 20 km

This route is slightly hilly. You cycle to St Margareten with its historic center. Most of the Austrian storcks nest here. Further on you ride to the Roman stone pit, well-known for its opera festivals. Take the same way for going back to the hotel.

Day 1
